A Mitten Tree

It is a time for Christmas shopping, making gifts, and baking goodies. One of my fave Christmas sightings is the hat and mitten trees that pop up in churches, schools, and stores. What fun to see the brightly colored decorations that will then go on to warm someone physically! What an awesome way to show Christ's love in a tangible way!

If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?  James 2:16 (NIV)

A giving tree is an awesome way to involve lots of people. The cost is minimal, so even young children or those on a fixed income can participate.

What kind of giving tree decorations do you like best? Here are a few that will warm the body and soul:

  • hats
  • gloves
  • mittens
  • scarves
  • ear muffs
  • socks
  • slippers

Why not add a gift tag with a message? If you are giving mittens or gloves, for example, it is an opportunity to give credit to the Creator for the work of his hands. Here are some verses that say just that:

The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.  Psalm 95:5

In the beginning [God] laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of [his] hands.  Psalm 102:25

The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.  Psalm 111:7

Don't forget to add some bling to the tags. This is a celebration!
