Ten Things to Do on a Snowy Day

Off school because of the snow? It is just raaaainy? Here are some tried and true ideas for fun things to do inside.

  1. Send drawings for the Doodle Race. Right now, you can send doodles (drawings) for this race. It is FREE! And. . . your drawing just might get published in a book by Zonderkidz! Here are the deets.
  2. Play a board game. Don't be bored! Pull out some of those Christmas gifts or the games stored in the closet. Want more? How about a tournament? Think kids vs. adults.
  3. Make cookies. Check out the goodies in the kitchen. Make a treat. Decorate some cookies. It's not just for Christmas, you know! Yum!
  4. Make a pizza. Lunch time? Make a pizza. Remember, you can make substitutions for lots of the traditional pizza ingredients. For example, use a jar of spaghetti sauce instead of pizza sauce and ANY KIND of cheese makes a great topping!
  5. Read a book. Raid the family library. Download books. Read at the same time (cuddled up on the couch), read together (taking turns reading aloud), or read to your pet. Seriously.
  6. Write a letter. Think paper and pencil - not a text, not an email. Go for it.
  7. Make a tent with blankets. Fun! Make a place to read or just to chat. It is a toasty way to spend part of the day.
  8. Plaaaay dough. You know you love it. Salt dough is easy to make.  Dress it up with food coloring and scents (flavorings) from the kitchen cupboard. Vanilla or peppermint anyone?
  9. Make a video. Use technology for family fun. Make a video for fam and send it to them. The video might be like a Skype time (but recorded so it can be replayed), a music video, or even a play.
  10. What are your ideas? What inside fun are you having as a family?

On the Way to Grandma's House

Lots of people travel for Thanksgiving. In fact, the day before is said to be the busiest travel day of the year.

Drawing for the Doodle Race is one way to help kids pass the time. There are other benefits as well:
Here is how to get started:

Christmas in July Mission Project

Have you noticed the stores? Yep. It is only July, but the displays are full of two things: back-to-school supplies and Christmas. Isn't that wonderful? Seriously. I mean it.Back-to-school time is perfect for packing those boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

The school supply sales have great prices. It is easy to stock up on everything a child needs for school. . . wherever he or she lives:

  • crayons
  • pencils
  • colored pencils
  • erasers
  • markers
  • rulers
  • scissors
  • glue
  • paper
  • notebooks

You don't have to fill the box only with school supplies, but you can add the fun things, toiletries, and clothing items later.

Earlier I blogged about a backpack mission project. Are these things in the Bible? I think so. . .

. . . the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’   Acts 20:35b   (NIV)

Sidewalk Doodle Art

Sidewalk chalk and a group of kids in church ministry (VBS, camp, mid-week activities). . . That's all you need to get 'em thinking about what the Bible means to them. Chalk out a prompt and let them doodle their responses.

What if one of their awesome creations was published in a book? Zonderkidz has made a sweet offer to two winners of our Doodle Race.

What is the Doodle Race?

How can kids and adults get involved?

The Doodle Race - R U Racing?

Hey Everyone!

Have you started your doodle for the Doodle Race? I'm getting emails from across the United States.

This is going to be FUN!!! And it's an awesome way to spread God's Word!

Remember the maps are even right now.

Girls    1

Boys    1

Which state will be NEON because of your doodle? Remember . . . if we already have your state, we will begin a tally (like Girls - Missouri 2).

Play the movie to learn more about it. Then, click the link for the prompt at the bottom of this post.

Here are the rules:

  • Open to ages 9 - adults (teachers, ministry workers, parents, grandparents, etc.)
  • One submission per person
  • Doodles should be black fine tip marker or pen (no pencil, no color).
  • Scan and send your doodle to doodlecontest@gmail.com
  • The doodles we receive will be posted on Mondays.
  • The doodles become the property of Carol McAdams Moore and may be used on this blog, other social media sites, in print publications, etc. to promote the Doodle Devotions books. Randomly selected winners will also appear in Doodle Devotions for Boys or Doodle Devotions for Girls.

How will we decide the winners?

  • Which map is filled first - boys or girls? One doodle in this category will be randomly selected to appear in one of the Doodle Devotions books from Zonderkidz in 2015. The winner will also receive a free copy of the book.
  • Which map has the most entries - girls or boys? One doodle in this category will be randomly selected to appear in one of the Doodle Devotions books from Zonderkidz in 2015. The winner will also receive a free copy of the book
So. . . the race will have TWO winners. Yep. You could be one of the winners. BUT you have to enter a doodle to be in the race. Just sayin'. . .
